The United States Military, as of today, is portrayed as this perfect group that has immaculate buildings, tough personnel, and an awesome fighting force. Because of this, over a million people have enlisted in the military to fight with the strongest military in the world. Back in the Civil War, however, America's soldiers were fighting for completely different reasons.
Unlike present day America, the majority of the population had the job
of a farmer. They would work ten hours a day on a farm in a routine
schedule. They longed something different and exciting. Secondly, they wanted to become famous. Thirdly, they wanted to I would not have enlisted, because: most of the soldier's time was spent in a camp drilling; it was improbable to become one of the American army's war heroes or generals.
