"Did The South Have A Chance" Response

I think the South did have a chance at winning. Although the chances are extremely though, the South still had some good qualities that could've lead them to victory. The Confederacy had better generals and more experienced soldiers, which is an important quality needed in battle. Although the Union had tons more soldiers, a lot of them were unexperienced and didn't know much. The Confederacy had cotton-export power, which could easily gain foreign support, which was part of their strategy. The Confederacy also had home-field advantage and great motivation. Motivation would inspire the Confederacy to fight and stay in the battle longer than the Union. The Confederacy's strategy also seemed better than the Union's. All these qualities seem enough for at least some chance for the Confederacy to win.

  1. I agree that better leadership and military experience made it possible for the Confederacy to win. Having the home field advantage and a clear motivation and reason to fight also contributed to the strength of the Confederacy. However, the Confederacy HOPED to gain foreign support through cotton. We learned that foreign countries like Britain and France stopped depending on the South for cotton. They found other sources of cotton in their own colonies or other places. This might've lead to the Confederacy overestimating their power. All in all, it weakened their strategy. But still, I agree that they did have a slim chance of winning!

  2. I agree with Jordan because even thought the confederacy wasn't as connected and had less people, they still were more skillful and they had a reason to fight. Not only that, they didn't want to "win" they just wanted to be left alone.

  3. I agree that having better generals and more experienced soldiers is an important quality needed to have in battle, and that the fact that the soldiers had more experience than the Union's is better that having tons of soldiers. I think experience is better than having more soldiers if the soldiers aren't as skilled.

  4. I agree with you on home field advantage and motivation, but think that the Union had more advantages. i think that if the South had foreign support, than the south might have a good chance against the Union.
