I think the South had a chance to win the war because of their advantages. First
of all, South had experienced soldiers and better generals. Even though the
North had a bigger population, they didn't have good generals and soldiers
compared to the South. South just had an advantage with leadership over an
army.
Second of all, South had a better motivation. I think motivation is
important to the soldiers. If they have a purpose to fight for, then I believe
they will fight better.
I think that the war shoudn't have been fought at
all. The Civil War just damaged America, not any other countries around them.
America was just hurting itself when people were fighting the war. Also, staying
one big nation would be the right way to go. There is no reason to secede just
because Lincoln took the president position. The South didn't know what he was
going to do. It could have been good to the South. Breaking America into two
sections weakened America as a whole nation. America was supposed to be the
strongest nation in the world. This war proved that America could be weakened by
itself. I could see the reason why the Confederacy broke away, but they could
have just waited a little longer to see what Lincoln would do. This way the
Civil War may have not even happened.
I agree since the South is looked upon as the colonists in the Revolutionary war. Also they had better motivation and experienced soldiers.
ReplyDeleteThe Union is Britain without all the disadvantages. The British had to send soldiers on a two-three month trip there. The North practically borders the South. The North also has some knowledge to what the land will be like and can anticipate some of their strategies, unlike the British.
DeleteThe CSA had little population compared to the Union. Their Confederate States army would amount to, at most, five million soldiers. The Union army would quadruple that amount, adding up to twenty-two million. I understand that the South had a military that was smarter. It had better experienced soldiers and generals. However, if you do the math correctly (from above), that would mean one Confederate soldier would have to disable four Union soldiers. Keep in mind that they used muskets, guns that would be shot two times a minute and are inaccurate.
ReplyDeleteSound good for the CSA? It gets worse.
In addition to their large military, the Union had the railroad tracks. They could ship soldiers and supplies four-five times as fast as the South would. The Union also had more materials. Sounds to me that the CSA are going to get their butts whipped.
